17A Vacation of seat where a member of Parliament resigns or is terminated for ceasing to support a political party
The main purpose of Article 17A of the Constitution is to ensure that members of Parliament continue to remain members of their respective political parties for the full term of Parliament.
- The President of a political party must inform the Speaker of Parliament, within 14 days after a member of Parliament:
(a) resigns from his or her political party; or
(b) is terminated as a member of that political party because he or she no longer supports that political party. - The Speaker of Parliament after being informed by the President of that political party, must, within 7 days, declare the seat of that member of Parliament vacant.

- Le principal objectif de l’article 17A de la Constitution est de garantir que les membres du Parlement restent membres de leurs partis politiques respectifs pour la durée totale du Parlement.
- Le président d’un parti politique doit informer le Président du Parlement, dans les 14 jours suivant la démission d’un membre du Parlement : (a) démissionne de son parti politique ; ou (b) est licencié en tant que membre de ce parti politique parce qu’il ne soutient plus ce parti politique.
